On Tuesday 29 June, Ardian invites you to the latest in its series of flagship climate events: “Investing in Climate Action: The Case for Hydrogen”. This summit will bring together a leading group from high-profile public authorities and industry to discuss how industrial partners, public entities and financial institutions can collaborate to unlock large scale hydrogen investments to facilitate the energy transition.
The private sector has a major opportunity to be a game changer in supporting the energy transition. At the same time, pension funds, insurance companies and other major financial institutions are all diversifying their sources of income to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
This summit will highlight opportunities, trends and case studies in the hydrogen industry and will be introduced by Dominique Senequier, President of Ardian and hosted by Mathias Burghardt, Head of Infrastructure and Member of the Executive Committee at Ardian.

Patrick Pouyanné
Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer - TotalEnergies SE
Patrick Pouyanné has been appointed Chairman of the Board and CEO of Total in December 2015; after being appointed CEO of Total in October 2014. Total became TotalEnergies in May 2021. He joined Total in 1997, with positions in Angola and Qatar in 1999. In 2002, he was named Senior Vice President, Finance, Economics and Information Systems in Exploration & Production, then Senior Vice President, Strategy, Business Development and R&D in Exploration & Production in 2006.
Previously, he held various positions in the French Industry Ministry and in ministerial offices from 1989 to 1996, incl. Environment and Industry Technical Advisor to the Prime Minister from 1993 to 1995 and Chief of Staff to the information technology and space minister from 1995 to 1996. He is member of the Board of Cap Gemini, AFEP, Institut du Monde Arabe, Ecole Polytechnique and Institut Polytechnique of Paris. He is also President of the Alliance for Eductation, French association against dropping out of school. He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor. He graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and Chief Engineer of the French Corps des Mines.
Ernest Moniz
Former US-DOE Secretary under B.Obama
Ernest J. Moniz served as the thirteenth United States Secretary of Energy from 2013 to January 2017. As Secretary, he advanced energy technology innovation, nuclear security and strategic stability, cutting-edge capabilities for the American scientific research community, and environmental stewardship. He placed energy science and technology innovation at the center of the global response to climate change and negotiated the Iran nuclear agreement alongside the Secretary of State. He served on Boards of numerous companies, non-profits and government agencies in the energy and security arenas. Dr. Moniz received a Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude in physics from Boston College, a doctorate in theoretical physics from Stanford University, and 10 honorary doctorates.
Fatih Birol
Executive Director International Energy Agency, Paris
Dr. Fatih Birol has served as Executive Director of the IEA since September 2015. He was re-elected in January 2018 for a second four year term, which began in September 2019. Under his leadership, the IEA has undertaken its first comprehensive modernisation programme since its creation in 1974. Prior to his nomination as Executive Director, Dr Birol spent over 20 years at the IEA. He has been named by Forbes Magazine among the most influential people on the world’s energy scene and was recognised by the Financial Times in 2017 as Energy Personality of the Year. He chairs the World Economic Forum’s (Davos) Energy Advisory Board and serves on the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Sustainable Energy for All. Before the IEA, he worked at the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Klaus Bonhoff
Germany DG Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure
Dr. Klaus Bonhoff was appointed Director-General for Policy Issues at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in August 2019. He worked at the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Jülich Research Centre), at Ballard Power Systems GmbH and at DaimlerChrysler AG. He was managing director of NOW GmbH (National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology). Dr Bonhoff is also an adjunct professor at Hamburg University of Technology and a member of various advisory boards. He graduated from RWTH Aachen University and ENSTA (Paris).
Musabbeh Al Kaabi
Chief Executive Officer, UAE Investments Platform Investment Committee Member, Mubadala Investment Company
Musabbeh is the Chief Executive Officer of Mubadala’s UAE Investments platform. The platform contributes to the acceleration of the UAE’s economic transformation, and
investing in national world class champions, fostering vibrant industrial and commercial clusters, and partnering with world-class global entities. He is also a member of Mubadala’s Investment Committee, playing a strategic role advising on all major investment decisions related to the full range of the Company’s sectors and businesses.
Noé van Hulst
Chair of IPHE
Noé van Hulst has been appointed Chair of IPHE in June 2020. He has a distinguished career as an economist, diplomat and energy economist. He is internationally known in the field of energy policy and economic strategy. He notably chaired the review of France's energy program by the International Energy Agency (IEA) of the OECD. He has worked in France at the IEA where he led the 50 experts of the strategy and policy analysis sector, in Riyadh as Secretary General of the International Energy Forum, in the Netherlands where he was Director General of Energy and also Director General of the Economy and Technology sectors, and Dutch Ambassador to the OECD. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Amsterdam.
Dr Sae Hoon Kim
Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group
Dr.-ing. Kim joined Hyundai Motor Group as manager of fuel cell engineering team in the corporate R&D division in 2003. He served as project leader for the Tucson ix35 Fuel Cell, the world’s first commercial production FCEV. Hyundai’s 100 kW class fuel cell stack and unique modular power system have been developed under his leadership. As director of the Fuel Cell Group, he led the successful launch of Hyundai’s second generation FCEV model, the NEXO SUV in 2018. The NEXO achieved significant improvement in many aspects including efficiency, performance as well as durability under his long term expertise and supervision. He is currently the head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Fuel Cell Center, a dedicated organization to develop technologies and new businesses opportunities surrounding hydrogen energy. As Co-secretary of the Hydrogen Council, he was responsible for organizing major meetings of the Hydrogen Council members and supporting the chairman's activities.
He graduated from the department of Mechanical Engineering, Seoul National University in 1992. He received his doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from RWTH Aachen, Germany in 1997.
Fabio Ferrari
Founder, Symbio
Fabio Ferrari is the founder and former CEO of Symbio and vice president of the French Hydrogen association. He acquired a strong experience in the complete hydrogen for mobility value chain, from technology to business models. Symbio is now a joint venture between Michelin and Faurecia (300 employees), aiming to become a worldwide leader in fuel cells, with a goal of €1.5 million of revenue in 2030. As a board member of Hympulsion, he was also able to experiment real vehicle, refueling station and hydrogen production plans, in close interaction with local authorities. He has over 20 years of experience and joined Ardian in 2020 as Operating Partner to support the team in all matters pertaining to hydrogen.
Amir Sharifi
Managing Director and Energy Transition Lead
Amir Sharifi joined Ardian in 2007. He has led the development of the Ardian franchise in the renewable energy sector and is now heading the Ardian working group for Hydrogen. Ardian has 7.5GW of heat and renewable under management across Europe and Americas. Amir is also founder of the Ardian Foundation which he founded in 2010. He previously was Head of Corporate Development and Communications of Ardian and worked for 5 years as a strategy consultant in the energy sector
He graduated from ESSEC.
Daryl Wilson
Executive Director, Hydrogen Council
Daryl Wilson has spent the last 15 years working in the hydrogen energy sector presently as Executive Director of the Hydrogen Council and previously CEO of Hydrogenics, a global leader in fuel cell and electrolysis technology. Daryl is a certified Corporate Director and has served on several public company boards. He is a versatile leader with more than 35 years of progressive industrial management experience in environmental technology, operations, manufacturing, human resources, product development, and organizational change developed in world class organisations, including DOFASCO, TOYOTA, and Zenon Environmental. He holds an MBA and Chemical Engineering degree.
Urban Keussen
Member of the Executive Board, Chief Technical Officer EWE AG
Urban Keussen joined the Board of Management of EWE AG in March 2018. Keussen began his career in 1993 at E.ON predecessor Preussen Elektra, joining E.ON NETZ via merger as Head of the Network Technology Division. From 2003 to 2010 he served as Managing Director of E.ON NETZ, following which he led the E.ON Group Technology and Innovation Division. In 2014 he joined transmission system operator TenneT as Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of TenneT Holding B.V and Chairman of the Management Board of the German subsidiary TenneT TSO GmbH. Since March 2018, he has been a member of the Board of Management of EWE AG, the North German energy supplier.
Renato Mazzoncini
CEO, A2A
Renato Mazzoncini has been CEO and General Manager of A2A since May 2020. Throughout his career, Mazzoncini has served in upper management positions in companies of strategic importance to Italy: Ansaldo, CEO of Busitalia (2012-2015), CEO and General Manager of Gruppo FS (2015-2018). He co-authored books on energy transformation. He serves as Vice President of Elettricità Future, and he is a member of its Executive and General Councils. He was appointed in May 2020 to the General Council of Confindustria; and he is a member of the Committee of Utilitalia and the Founder’s Assembly of the Foundation of the Polytechnic University of Milan from which he graduated.
Marcelino Oreja
CEO, Enagas
Marcelino Oreja has been CEO of Enagas since September 2012. He is a Trustee of the Transforma Espana Foundation and member of the Rey Juan Carlos University council. He was General Secretary of the National Confederation of Young Entrepreneurs (1992-1997). He founded DEF-4 patents and trademarks, which he sold to Garrigues Andersen in 1997, becoming its General Manager. He was the International Director of Aldeasa, General Manager of EMTE, General Manager of COMSA EMTE: and Chairman of the FEVE railway company. He was Member of the European Parliament from 2002-2004; and was a Board Member of the Basque Energy Agency. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the School of Engineering at the Pontifical University of Comillas.
Martin Mugica
President & CEO, Skyline Renewables
Martin Mugica and his team created a partnership with Ardian Infrastructure Partners in the early 2018. Under Martin’s leadership, the company has grown to manage more than 800 MW of wind projects, delivering on an ambitious business plan to create a leading renewable platform in the US. He was formerly President & CEO of Iberdrola Renewables (Avangrid), managing a team exceeding 700 people and 6 GW capacity that generated over $1bn in sales revenue annually. He holds over 20+ years’ experience building infrastructure projects in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, South America and Northern Africa. He holds an executive MBA at IESE Madrid, Spain & Mechanical Engineering superior degree at ICAI Madrid, Spain.
Pierre-Etienne Franc
CEO, FiveT Hydrogen
Pierre Etienne has 25 years’ experience with one of the most recognized leading companies in the development of the Hydrogen solutions, for classic industry uses and new emerging hydrogen energy markets, Air Liquide. There he developed wide business experiences in managing and completing successfully large BOO projects in many regions of the world, most of them based on complex JV schemes, which are typical of what the Fund will move in, for the chemical, metals and refining industry. Over the last ten years, Pierre Etienne managed for the AL Group the portfolio of technologies and new businesses including Hydrogen Energy, with strong ecosystem build up, creation and coordination of the Hydrogen Council, and business wise coordination of €600m worth of investments for the Group. Pierre Etienne has founded and led the AL Corporate Venture Fund since 2012, ALIAD – 35 participations, €100m+ of investments in venture technologies companies. Pierre Etienne graduated from HEC school of Management.
