Raising the bar in the effort to lower blood pressure.
Hypertension is a significant, escalating global healthcare problem affecting more than 1 billion people worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease and death.
Standard treatment relies on medications that must be taken daily for the duration of the patient’s life. These medications control blood pressure in only half of treated patients, can be costly and often bring with them a range of side effects that may negatively impact quality of life.
Founded in 2003, Ardian, Inc. has been working with leading researchers to develop a safe, effective treatment option that could offer a better approach to managing hypertension. Understanding that hyperactivity of renal sympathetic nerves is a major contributor to the progression of the disease, the company has developed a unique system designed to block these nerves and thereby lower blood pressure.
The Symplicity® Catheter System is currently being used around the world. Clinical use is initially focusing on hypertension, but we also intend to demonstrate that the therapy will play a role in treating heart failure, insulin resistance and chronic kidney disease, diseases also characterized by a hyperactive sympathetic drive. We hope that this treatment may one day improve the lives of many suffering with these diseases.
